BBL (BroadBand Light™) technology is a broadband light treatment available for those who want to treat aging skin, keep skin looking young, and/or treat acne.  Whether you want to turn back time on sun-damaged skin, maintain healthy skin, or clear acne-prone skin, BBL is a gentle, in-office treatment with typically no downtime.

Women and men visit Q the Medical Spa for BBL treatments from throughout Rochester, Victor, Syracuse, Pittsford, Canandaigua, and surrounding New York communities.

What Are the Benefits of BroadBand Light Therapy?

Safe for use on most areas of the face and body such as the face, neck, back of the hands, chest, back, and shoulders, BBL light therapy can correct a variety of conditions, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven tone and texture
  • Brown spots and uneven pigmentation
  • Rosacea, broken capillaries, and other redness
  • Active acne and acne scars

BBL is also safe and effective as a preventative regimen to protect your skin from the sun and environmental damage that accumulates over time.

How Does BBL Work?

BBL technology administers light energy deep into the skin without harming its surface. The concentrated pigment in brown spots and blood vessels absorbs this intense light, heating it until it breaks apart into tiny particles that are gradually flushed out of the body. The light energy also stimulates collagen production in the skin, which helps rejuvenate the skin’s texture and tone over time.

Can BBL Be Combined With Other Treatments?

The results of BBL therapy can be enhanced by combining it with other treatments, including:

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic smooths out creases around the eyes, between the eyebrows, and across the forehead.
  • Dermal fillers restore volume on the cheeks, around the eyes, in smile lines, and other areas.
  • RF microneedling further boosts collagen to smooth and tighten the skin.

During your consultation, one of our experienced aesthetic skin specialists will create a treatment plan to help you address your specific concerns and unique skincare needs.

What to Expect During Your BBL Treatment

Clients are required to have a personal consultation appointment to determine if they are a candidate for the procedure. The number of treatments needed will vary depending on each client’s needs, and the treatment plan will be determined at the consultation appointment. The treatment itself can take anywhere from a few minutes to a half an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated.

What Does BBL Feel Like?

Generally, a topical anesthetic is not needed but may be used on more sensitive areas.  A quick, warm sensation may be felt as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas.

What is BBL Recovery Like?

The BBL treatment is non-invasive and gentle with little to no downtime.  In most cases, clients are able to apply makeup and return to work, as well as resume most activities immediately.  Some redness may be experienced after the treatment but should resolve within a few hours.  Some pigmented lesions may darken before fading and flaking off.  It is advisable to avoid direct sun exposure and to use sunscreen following treatment.

Who Is a Candidate for BBL?

Candidates for BBL include men and women who are looking to treat any area of the face or body showing signs of aging due to sun exposure, those with acne, and those who would like to help prevent future aging and skin damage.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect From BBL?

Clients can expect treated skin to feel smoother, pores to appear less noticeable, sunspots or uneven pigmentation to fade, and acne to clear.  Some clients may see an improvement after just one treatment, but results vary for each client depending on the condition treated, number of treatments, and the area treated.
