How Do Photofractional Laser Treatments Work?
With the combination of IPL and ResurFX technologies, multiple skin conditions can be treated at the same time. The IPL technology treats unwanted pigment, redness, and vascularities, while the ResurFX laser heats the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin fibers.
What to Expect During Your Photofractional Laser Treatment
Laser treatments at Q the Medical Spa are performed by nurses for optimal safety and results. Upon arrival for your first treatment, you will take photos and complete a consent for treatment form. Your skin will be prepped with a special wash and a thin layer of numbing cream, which will be applied and left on for 20 minutes. Your nurse will customize settings on the laser to treat your specific skin conditions. Most treatments take about 15 to 30 minutes to complete, depending on the size and number of areas being treated.
What Do Photofractional Laser Treatments Feel Like?
While a warm or prickling sensation may be felt while the laser is applied to the skin, the Photofractional treatment is equipped with integrated cooling and most do not find it uncomfortable. After your treatment is completed, soothing lotion will be applied to the skin. Your skin will look like it has a mild sunburn.
What Is Recovery Like After Photofractional Laser Treatments?
Immediately following treatment, you can expect mild redness or swelling, depending on the customized treatment settings. Swelling will usually diminish after a few hours and redness by the next day or over the next few days. Most people are able to return to their normal activities that same day. Recovery time is short and relatively comfortable. It is important to avoid sun exposure before and after treatments; wear a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Once the skin is completely healed, be sure to wear SPF 15 or higher every day for long-term protection.
What Kinds of Results Can I Expect After Photofractional Treatments?
Results appear gradually as the skin builds new collagen over time, as the laser works with your skin to stimulate deep collagen regeneration. While some people may begin to notice improvement after the first session, optimal results are typically achieved after 3 to 5 sessions, done in intervals of 2 to 6 weeks. You may continue to see improvements for up to 6 months following treatment.
