Your Ultimate Guide to Summer Skincare

As the sun’s warm embrace becomes more inviting and outdoor adventures beckon, our skincare needs to undergo a significant shift. With the arrival of summer, our skin faces new challenges that demand a tailored approach. While we often associate summer with relaxation and fun in the sun, it’s essential to recognize that our skin still requires care and attention during this season.

Skincare and medical spa treatments need to adapt in the summer months so that we can effectively protect, nourish, and rejuvenate our skin during sun-soaked days and balmy evenings. Understanding the unique demands of summer skincare is key to maintaining healthy, radiant skin all season long.

Skincare Treatments During the Summer

When it comes to chemical peels, tan skin can be treated, but with special care. It’s important to note that we do not treat sunburned skin. If you do get a sunburn before your skincare appointment, we will have to reschedule your treatment to give the skin time to heal. If you have had exposure to the sun but are not burned, your aesthetician will be able to adjust the skincare treatment that they provide, customizing the experience to accommodate the needs of your skin at that time.

Some safe summer skincare treatments include (but are not limited to):

  • Hydrafacial®
  • Mandelic Peel
  • PCA Sensi Peel
  • Enzyme Peel
  • Treatment Masks

Our goal throughout the summer is that you will continue to be consistent in your skincare routine. It’s important to not stop and then restart in the fall after more damage has been done. Regular skincare is an investment, and we are here to work with you and teach you how to best care for that investment, even in the summer months. We do not want to undo what we have worked so hard all year together to achieve.

While summer treatments may be less corrective, regular appointments will help you continue to be more diligent with SPF and product use, as well as help you freshen up for events and hydrate the skin with in-office treatments to maintain the overall health of your skin.

Safe Sun Exposure

Safe sun exposure is important! What does this mean? It means that we want everyone to wear a daily moisturizer with SPF. If you are going to be active outside, you must use more resilient sun protection. Some great options are:

We encourage reapplication every 2 hours, as well as after swimming or perspiring. Wear a hat and stay in the shade whenever possible.

Summer Laser Treatments

When it comes to laser treatments in the summer, our nurses will evaluate your sun activities, educate you on proper SPF, and from there decide on the best way to proceed with your treatment plan. Being tan and being exposed to the sun are different, so it’s best to allow your provider to evaluate your specific skin condition.

Lasers that are safe to be done through the sunny months with the proper precautions and settings include:

Laser hair removal is something that we would give extra care in evaluating and treating during the summer months.

Sometimes patients are not candidates for laser treatments in the very sunny months, but that does not mean that your progress in skincare halts. At the very least, you will be referred for good skincare and treatments to maintain what we have achieved through lasers.

While life is busy in the summer as we all take advantage of the short months of warm, sunny weather, our team continues to be committed to helping you keep your skin healthy. Our goal is to give our patients the safest and best treatments all year! So as summer approaches, make time for your skincare treatments to keep your skin glowing!
