Filler Care Instructions
After all injectable fillers, including Juvederm®, Volbella, Vollure, Restylane® product line, and Voluma®, please follow these instructions:
- Apply ice on and off for 24 hours. It is normal to experience some degree of swelling post treatment; ice may be applied provided that you wrap the ice around a clean cloth first. Never apply ice directly to the skin as this may cause damage to the skin. If ice is applied, it should only be applied for 15 minutes out of each hour. Swelling will continue to resolve itself over the next few days.
- Bruising may occur immediately or within 24 hours after an injection. If you bruise, it may last 5 to 7 days. Applying ice as noted above will help. It is okay to put makeup over your bruise.
- Avoid any strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages for the first 24 hours as additional swelling and redness may occur.
- Tylenol may be taken to help with any pain or discomfort.
- Do not massage or manipulate the treated area.
- If you notice any signs and symptoms of infection, including, but not limited to, increased redness, pain, drainage or discomfort, please notify your nurse injector as soon as possible.
- For patients with a history of cold sores, please alert the nurse injector at once if symptoms start occurring. Cold sore breakouts on any treated area need to be evaluated to prevent further spread of the virus.
- If, after a filler injection, you experience any significant sharp pain, and/or if the skin develops a purple, lacy, or dusky appearance, call the nurse injector immediately. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved, so if there is an issue, the faster it can be treated, the better your chances will be of avoiding a negative outcome.
- If you suspect that you may be experiencing an allergic reaction including hives, itchiness, and/or rash, please notify the nurse injector immediately.
- Results can typically be expected between 2 to 3 weeks. It is not uncommon to desire more product to achieve your desired results, especially if this is your first time having filler. Additional appointments to adjust the dosage of filler can be scheduled once the initial injection has taken effect.
