Corrective Facial Treatment Care Instructions

Before your corrective facial treatment, please follow these instructions:

  • Please refrain from these activities within 14 days of your appointment:
    • having a chemical peel/Microdermabrasion/HydraFacial
    • tanning in a tanning booth
    • having a “wax” treatment
  • Please do not have filler injections within seven (7) days of your appointment.
  • If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, you are not a candidate for corrective treatments. However, you may receive Dermaplaning or Microdermabrasion.
  • Please refrain from sun exposure for two (2) weeks prior to your appointment. Do not come to the appointment with a sunburn (please let us know if you are unable to keep your appointment).
  • Delay use of Retin-A, Renova, Differin, and high percentage glycolic products for approximately five (5) days prior to your appointment.  Using any of these products will take the treatment deeper and make your results less predictable.
  • Use of recommended home products prior to your treatment will prepare the skin and allow for better treatment results.

These superficial treatments will result in little to no downtime. Treatments may include slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking, and/or temporary dryness. Makeup use can be resumed the day following the treatment.

After your corrective facial treatment, please follow these instructions:

Due to the nature of these treatments, you may or may not actually “peel.” However, you may have a light flaking or exfoliation in a few localized areas for a couple of days. It may take two or more treatments for the surface skin to loosen and peel. Most patients who undergo these treatments have only residual redness for one or two days. Everyone responds differently, and most patients look quite normal the day after their treatment.

On the day of your treatment:

  • Allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight.
  • Makeup can be applied, if necessary.
  • It is not unusual for the treated skin to feel tight and pulled. Apply moisturizer as needed.
  • Unless recommended by your provider, do not apply other medications or AHA products to your skin, as they may cause severe irritation to the skin.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat.
  • Use sunscreen for daily sun protection.
  • Do not pick at or pull any loosening or exfoliating skin. This could cause hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin).

For the next two days:

  • Follow the Home Care Regimen sheet provided to you by your provider.
  • Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated areas.
  • Do not put your face directly into a hot shower spray. Do not use a Jacuzzi, steam room or sauna.
  • Do not go swimming.
  • Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
  • Do not use Buff-Puffs or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
  • Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
  • Stay cool! Getting heated internally can cause hyperpigmentation.

For the next week:

  • Discontinue use of Retin A/Renova/Tretinoin/Differin/Tazorac or any other retinoid product.
  • Avoid perfume, body sprays, and lotions on the neck/decollate area.
  • Do not have electrolysis, laser hair removal or filler injections.

For the next 2 weeks:

  • Do not use a tanning booth.
  • Do not have any facial waxing or use depilatories.

Do not have another treatment until your provider advises you to do so.
